After 15 years as a math teacher and parents of five children, I really saw something new (for me) in mathematics education for the past year that really impressed me.
My (then four years) son attends a Montessori pre-school class and learned math concepts in a way that I never had the room with me, nor any of my three older children have learned.
The Montessori approach to mathematics
Montessori-based math education happening on the basis ofConcrete to abstract classes for Montessori-speak as "works", which really just manipulative.
This well-designed, highly specialized manipulative for each "mathematics" to make abstract ideas more accessible to a child.
Each new work is to introduce students have only a one-to-one lessons with the teacher.
With this individualized teaching, teachers can wait until every student is ready for the next level of abstraction firstIn the ventricle.
Step-by-step progress
Some boys in my son (mixed age) were pre-school class to learn how to winds are still, while other types of learning place value and addition and subtraction. But do young children understand mathematics early in life that count, and a master-to-one for the post and had to work for addition and subtraction.
This is to remember a very important concept for children. There may be lessons "skipped" in the Montessori preschool mathematics curriculum, (and should not "jump" to any math curriculum, in my humble opinion in.) My son's classmates realized that mastery of each material a lesson is in order skills in mathematics. This is a wonderful approach for pre-school children's math!
mathematics lessons are fun!
From the perspective of my son, the "works", he used to learn math were almost like toys. He got to play withthem in the way the teacher showed him and he came away with an understanding of the mathematical concept. In fact, this really works just a good mathematics education are manipulative, designed to teach mathematics very focused approach.
There are works, keys to teach math skills such as education, measurement, counting numbers, the number of education, one-on-one addition and subtraction, and even higher mathematical concepts. Each time a new math teachers "work" were the children whoready for the next math concept were excited and energized to learn a new math skills. They observe and help each other, the duties of the job and to learn from their colleagues in this way. This is a great way to get to the work of mathematical group!
It works as a Montessori Toys
Some of these would be wonderful toy mathematical manipulative and "kitchen table" classes for parents to do with their children, whether the introduction of mathematical concepts at home. I was very pleased with the progress of my son in mathMontessori school mathematics education, a teacher was obviously very talented, but I think that many children could benefit from home use of the Montessori math manipulatives in the same.
