Montessori Kindergarten Math Education - Here's why it works so well

After 15 years as a math teacher and parents of five children, I really saw something new (for me) in mathematics education for the past year that really impressed me.

My (then four years) son attends a Montessori pre-school class and learned math concepts in a way that I never had the room with me, nor any of my three older children have learned.

The Montessori approach to mathematics
Montessori-based math education happening on the basis ofConcrete to abstract classes for Montessori-speak as "works", which really just manipulative.

This well-designed, highly specialized manipulative for each "mathematics" to make abstract ideas more accessible to a child.

Each new work is to introduce students have only a one-to-one lessons with the teacher.

With this individualized teaching, teachers can wait until every student is ready for the next level of abstraction firstIn the ventricle.

Step-by-step progress
Some boys in my son (mixed age) were pre-school class to learn how to winds are still, while other types of learning place value and addition and subtraction. But do young children understand mathematics early in life that count, and a master-to-one for the post and had to work for addition and subtraction.

This is to remember a very important concept for children. There may be lessons "skipped" in the Montessori preschool mathematics curriculum, (and should not "jump" to any math curriculum, in my humble opinion in.) My son's classmates realized that mastery of each material a lesson is in order skills in mathematics. This is a wonderful approach for pre-school children's math!

mathematics lessons are fun!
From the perspective of my son, the "works", he used to learn math were almost like toys. He got to play withthem in the way the teacher showed him and he came away with an understanding of the mathematical concept. In fact, this really works just a good mathematics education are manipulative, designed to teach mathematics very focused approach.

There are works, keys to teach math skills such as education, measurement, counting numbers, the number of education, one-on-one addition and subtraction, and even higher mathematical concepts. Each time a new math teachers "work" were the children whoready for the next math concept were excited and energized to learn a new math skills. They observe and help each other, the duties of the job and to learn from their colleagues in this way. This is a great way to get to the work of mathematical group!

It works as a Montessori Toys
Some of these would be wonderful toy mathematical manipulative and "kitchen table" classes for parents to do with their children, whether the introduction of mathematical concepts at home. I was very pleased with the progress of my son in mathMontessori school mathematics education, a teacher was obviously very talented, but I think that many children could benefit from home use of the Montessori math manipulatives in the same.

Home School - How do your children a proper education

As homeschooling parents, I would give my children the best education possible. But what makes a good education?

Good is a subjective term, I can tell you what I think a good education. I think in terms of results.

What I want my children out of their education?

I love my children to learn. I want my children happy, by "experts" to develop the topics that interest them. I want to wake up to ask my children whatto meet that day. I want my child to research or ask me for help, how to write a word because he is writing a story. I would ask my daughter how to solve a problem of algebra, because it is the study of bacteria. You should be able to read magazines and a sense of them. You must be able to be able to separate the wheat from the chafe when does everything. My children need to understand how their community and country, and has no idea what happens in the world. My childrenshould be able to adapt to new technologies and changing social, political and physical environment. I want my children to be good contributing members of society.

What kind of education to achieve this?

I am convinced that the worksheets, the bells of the school and the long hours not to promote in schools the way to a love of learning in children.

The game is important for learning. A book called Einstein never used flash cards tells how little playing time makes children happy andchildren "catch up" with their colleagues in the second class, even if they are dancing lessons, swimming lessons, piano lessons, and a kindergarten curriculum rigid.

A blurb in the 20th called in January 2009 issue of Science Report Calls for New Look as written outside of school about what is important to learn science in an informal context and that science is learned in many different contexts. The schools are burdened with many requests for teaching, andLove of learning can not stand the bureaucracy of the school.

An article in the February / March 2009 issue of Scientific American Mind called the serious need for the games is a point that "free, imaginative play crucial for normal social, emotional and cognitive development. We are more adequate, more intelligent and less he said. "

I have read many books and articles, the best way to promote the love of learning in children, and I developed my program of home schooling for my childrenOn the basis of this.

The minimum

Children have a minimal amount of "work" they need to do any work. Need to practice their piano every day, but I'm just playing with them for five minutes, okay. You should read every day. Do not track my daughter to read, because she reads all the time. My son is not a bookworm again, then I sit down with him and have him sleep with me for fifteen minutes every day. My son has a number of write every day, and my daughter needs to writeSales every day. You also need to do some type of physical activity every day. Both children need some kind of math to do every day, even playing Monopoly with her dad or keep score in a game of Scrabble.

In addition to the minimum requirements, I set some goals for them. My daughter has at least one book report per month. My son has set some goals to give learning.

All these activities are their responsibility. If they do their minimum, you get to play, orwhatever.

Documentation

When my children a documentary by the History Channel, NOVA, or want to watch Discovery Channel, I leave them. I watch the show with the kids, so I can answer questions that could, but when my 7 years old, takes a documentary on string theory to see him get to watch. The children collect an amazing amount of information, and they understand much more than I expected.

The library

We go to the library a lot. Ifchildren want to play with the animals of the jungle of plastic, let them. If you want to find how long a ladybug, I leave them.

Excursions

When children ask to go to the Museum of Science, the program, and I take it. My husband and I take plays that seem appropriate. In essence, if the children show a continued interest in a topic, if it is reasonably within our means, we will try to help them what they need to make sense.

My husband and II

My husband and I love to learn and show that for children. They see us read regularly. They see us upset when we learn new things. My children see us become a near obsession when we get into something new.

Does it work?

So far it has. My children love to learn.

K12 Virtual Education - With Online Curriculum for K-12? Top 10 Tips for Success!

Consider this:

"Nobody reads program is best for all children. Teachers successful reading activities have developed on the student to differentiate between their state of readiness for reading in progress."

Sousa, D. (2006) How the brain learns Corwin Press

This method of differentiation is the key to the development of online curriculum. There are no "one size fits all 'teaching and learning. Here are tips for using online your ten hoursCurriculum successfully ...

"Where do I start?"

Tip 1

When you start with a resource online curriculum is a good idea to make it the most. Online curriculum is designed for young learners aged and therefore includes grade appropriate materials. With the help of the curriculum as a resource to give you a way to engage students make sense if the search-age. Perhaps it could be detectives for the dayand give any other research topic within the curriculum.

"I never learned, and have no idea what level of quality is being taught this:"

Tip 2

Give yourself time to get to the content. Most online curriculum followed what they call a "scope and the section that give you a summary of what grade level are covered. The scope and sequence is an overview of not so overwhelming. This isalso a good idea to look ahead to see at grade one, in which content is leading.

"Some of the things that my student has a low profile and is bored by them again."

Tip 3

Give your students the role of teacher and have him or her create a learning experience for you with the material. This gives you the opportunity to see how well your student has "learned" the material. Teaching others has shown that "the level that we have in the" league of learning.

"I can not my students to work - I am so frustrated with all this curriculum online!"

Tip 4

Do not take your frustrations on the curriculum! The curriculum is not self-teach students through yours! It is simply a tool for information and opportunities for the provision of IT provision. You still need innovative ways to engage students and inspire them about the content they use to think to learn a new concept. Stay optimisticContent.

"The program is not good for my learning needs of students well."

Tip 5

If teaching or the content is not a good fit, as is not to be found in this form. You are not afraid to take what you need more wise and repackaged to meet your students adapt. Pull some mathematical instruments, art supplies, books, or what we can give meaning and significance, the material is covered.

"My students can not receive lessons, past a certain"

Tip 6

By all means you can find a lesson that engages your student card again and maybe revisit the content of the lesson, go to a later date. Most of the online curriculum is designed so as to cover different content back in. It 's always a fun idea to look through the teachings of the content found commitment that best suit your student card.

"We are after arrival in our progress. What do we do?"

Tip 7

If weAfter we often want to "fix" the situation. It is tempting to try to achieve by simply using the student card is not the end of class evaluations. This is not a good idea, because not all content covered in these assessments. If you take the feeling behind a breath and look at what has reached your students. Focus areas and must cover these first. Let your students choose the content of his taste, if the lessons you have selected are finished. Assessments are nota teaching tool. Ask for help from a professional training, if you are not able to collect up to a certain point in time.

"Have fun?"

Tip 8

It 'very important to have tons of fun while teaching your children. Much of what you are teaching can be exciting and hands. afternoons in the garden can play live, and support learning as a positive way. Learning happens in all the unexpected places.

"Those who work forWho? "

Tip 9:10

The plan is 9 and 10, because it is so important! I do not work for the curriculum. The curriculum is designed to work! You are responsible for providing a meaningful program that encourages students to learn to work! Curriculum Online is a tool for the journey to help save you and that your content in any direction that you cover.
